Town & Country Veterinary Clinic AAHA Accredited Practice

Notice to the Residents of the city of Marinette.

A new state law has been put into place which changes the way stray pets can be handled in the city of Marinette.

For many years, Town & Country Veterinary Clinic has worked with the Marinette Police Department in handling impounded and stray animals in the city of Marinette.

In an effort to stop “puppy mills” in the state of Wisconsin, legislators’ have passed a law that would require all entities that sell dogs to obtain a license.

When the city of Marinette impounds an animal we are required to hold the pet in our care for 7 days.  If, at that time, the pet is not claimed the city of Marinette is relieved of their responsibility and we at Town & Country Veterinary Clinic take the animal under our care, sometimes for months and try to adopt the pet. As such, the state of Wisconsin considers us a “dog seller”, even when no fee is charged.  The reality is for us to obtain a dog sellers license, would require unreasonable changes for a Veterinary Hospital.

If, after the 7 day impound by the city, the animal is not claimed and is euthanized no dog seller license would be required of Town & Country Veterinary Clinic.  We DO NOT believe that this is in the best interest of the pet or the public.  For this reason, we will no longer be able to continue accepting stray animals for the city of Marinette.
