February is Pet Dental Month!
Does your pet have a healthy smile? One of the key ingredients to a healthy pet is their dental health. Not only should a pet's teeth be clean, but their gums should also be a healthy pink. One of the top causes to a blood infection in a pet is having infected teeth. Having a healthy smile is one of the most important ways to reduce the chance of blood infections. Call our office to today for more information on routine dental check-ups for your pet.
North American Veterinary Conference.
Dr. Orlin Herrild recently attended one of the largest veterinary conferences in the world, the North American Veterinary Conference where we were brought up to date on the newest and the best in veterniary medicine. Including what the U.S. government is trying to do about the critical drug shortages in the U.S. today. Remember the FDA reported 179 critical drug shortages in the U.S. in 2011.
CryoProbe.
Our newest piece of equipment, the CryoProbe is used in Cryosurgery a deep freezing process to destroy abnormal tissue. Cryosurgery uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the area and remove tumors, cancerous cells or abnormalities with less scaring. One of the benefits of Cryosurgery is minimal to no pain for your pet. This method of surgery is great for our older patients who are not necessarily good candidates for conventional surgery. Cryosurgery is a shorter procedure while being less invasive to your pet.
Digital X-rays are here!
In March 2009, Dr. Kim purchased a Companion Animal Digital Radiography System from Vetel Diagnostics, a leader in Digital Radiography for the Veterinary industry. On August 5th the unit was installed and on August 6th the Doctors and Technicians went through training. We are now able to take an x-ray and 9 seconds later view the image on a high performance monitor. This will enhance our patient care by having a more detailed and clearer view to make our diagnosis more exact. If there is a need for you to see a specialist a digital radiography can be sent over the internet or downloaded onto a CD for you to take with you. Now when we take an x-ray no chemicals are involved! Making our x-rays very environmentally friendly. Not only that… it is also really cool!!
Blood Chemistry Machines.
In September 2010 we purchased new blood chemistry machines to update our laboratory. With these new pieces of equipment not only can we have blood results in 55 seconds for a basic blood count but we have the ability for more accurate and diverse blood chemistries. Julie and Nancy, our laboratory technicians, obtained extensive on site training by Heska personnel the manufacturer of the equipment. With faster blood results our doctors can make a diagnosis and can determine a treatment plan for your pet in less time, hopefully shortening your wait time at the office.
Problems with caller ID.
It has become of great concern for Dr. Kim, Dr. Bill and Dr. Kurt when they have tried to reach a client by phone. If your phone system does not accept "blocked" or "unavailable" calls the doctors cannot get through to you. When our veterinarians are on call they place phone calls from private lines that are permanently blocked to caller ID. When you need the veterinarian to return your call, please leave a number that will accept a blocked call.
